Today has been quite the day! From meeting new people who changed our perspectives to eating enormously large hot dogs and seeing what God has been doing in the lives of young children. Today Group 1 worked at the Calgary Food Bank packing cans. We were once again blessed to hear how our hard work had been greatly appreciated by both the staff and clients. Then Group 1 traveled to their regular afternoon workplace at the Salvation Army's Children's Cottage to run the VBS. It was especially encouraging to hear of one of the young boy's experience. He attended the VBS today and also on Tuesday. His family had recently been going through a tough time so as a result he often slept with his mother at night but after hearing the story of David and Goliath on Tuesday he decided to trust God and sleep on his own without a night light. How courageous! This was super exciting for us all to hear and reminds us that good works do reap a harvest at the proper time.
Group 2 went to the Salvation Army Centre of Hope again today and did A LOT of food prep which included onion staring contests between Nic and Josh (typical). But we relied on God's strength A LOT too because it was a long day and have come to be known as the 1-10 team, which means we give 110%! Eating lunch at the infamous Tubby Dog, known for their extreme hot dog toppings, just topped off our day.
Group 3 went across town this morning to the Mustard Seed, a homeless shelter, where they served the lunch they had made which was followed by an "interesting" tour of the facility. After lunch Group 3 handed out hot chocolate in ironically, 15 degree weather. And with the great weather also came great encounters. While handing out hot chocolate, we met a woman named Wilma who once again showed how no matter the situation, God's love reigns. She had previously been in an abusive relationship but now is free from it and is experiencing God's immense love for her. She was a great encouragement and reminder for Group 3. In the late afternoon, we came back to our "home" at the Jesus Loves You Society where they worked in the kitchen, food centre, and clothing store. We also then experienced the appreciation of the women here as they pored their thanks onto us.
We can not even believe how God has been blessing us in our attempts to bless others. But as we receive so much gratitude, we are reminded that it all is for God's glory!
