Thursday we spent most of the day simply settling in to where we are sleeping and getting orientation sessions. We are sleeping at the family life centre in winnipeg. Our sessions and meals are served at Fort Garry MB church. We sleep on the floor. Its a comfy floor though. The floor is very flat. And carpeted. Thats a nice touch. Ryan Smith decided to take up half the room with his king size air mattress which is causing some turmoil amongst the guys.
Friday (our second day) was the learning tour, we split into groups of 4 or 5 and followed a "path" around the poorer area of Winnipeg. We made 7 or 8 stops, hearing speakers talk about gangs, rooming-houses, a woman's testimony, and stopped at several parks to pray for the area. It was very eye-opening about what life is like for people in this area, although a little chilly walking around for so long!
While we were on the learning tour, Rachel's group prayed for us to encounter someone who would like to talk to us. while we were at another stop, a man came up to us and asked us what discipleship school was. We were all happy that God gave us someone to talk to and get out of our comfort zone. Then each person in each group got $2 for supper to experience what it is like to be poor. It was a very challenging learning tour where we went to a lot of different ministries and heard testimonies from people at different ministries. Its amazing how many different missions there are in inner city winnipeg. But there is also so much need!
Today (Saturday) we went to our place of ministry (ICYA) to prepare for the VBS. We met with our host, Lori, and went for lunch at a local place by ICYA. Now we are eating supper. It is scalloped potatoes and ham. Yum.
